What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Blood draws, Questionnaires

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "Blood samples are collected from patients and controls."
  • "Tissue samples collected from patients undergoing surgery and blood samples are archived for future studies."
  • "Patients and controls complete questionnaires about diet, medical history, and occupational/environmental history."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study looks at DNA in blood and tissue samples from people newly diagnosed with lung cancer. DNA carries the body's genetic instructions. Researchers hope to learn about DNA changes and find signs linked to cancer.

RATIONALE: Studying samples of blood and tissue from patients with cancer in the laboratory may help doctors learn more about changes that occur in DNA and identify biomarkers related to cancer. It may also help the study of cancer in the future. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is analyzing the DNA in blood and tissue samples from patients with lung cancer.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • You have newly diagnosed cancer that started in the lung.
  • You are a patient at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) or Boston Medical Center Cancer Center.

Who can't join

  • People in groups called “vulnerable populations” cannot join. The listing does not say which groups this means.
  • You have cancer that spread to the lung from another part of the body.
  • You have mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining around certain organs.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
