What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Questionnaires, Interviews

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study collects medical records and samples of blood, tissue, and stool from people with inflammatory or invasive breast cancer. The samples will be stored for lab research that may help doctors better understand and treat inflammatory breast cancer.

This trial studies the biospecimen and medical data collection in creating a research tissue registry in patients with inflammatory or invasive breast cancer. Collecting medical data and storing samples of blood, tissue, and stool from patients with inflammatory breast cancer to study in the laboratory may help doctors find better ways to treat and study inflammatory breast cancer in the future.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Have a doctor's diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), either as a first or second separate cancer. At MD Anderson only, people strongly suspected of having IBC may also qualify.
  • Have invasive breast cancer confirmed by a tissue test. This is cancer that has grown into nearby breast tissue. At MD Anderson only, people strongly suspected of having IBC may join while waiting for a diagnosis.
  • Be newly diagnosed, or have stored tissue samples from the first IBC diagnosis or breast removal surgery. The stored-sample group is for MD Anderson patients only. Newly evaluated patients strongly suspected of having IBC may also qualify at MD Anderson.
  • Be older than 18.
  • Be able to understand the study and agree to take part.

Who can't join

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

    Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Patients with clinical diagnosis of primary inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), second primary IBC, or highly suspicious for IBC (MD Anderson patients only). * Histological diagnosis of invasive breast cancer, or highly suspicious for IBC (MD Anderson patients only) but pending breast cancer diagnosis. * Be either newly diagnosed, or highly suspicious for IBC (MD Anderson patients only) \[Cohort I\] or have paraffin blocks or up to 20 unstained slides of each representative block(s) from the time of initial diagnosis of IBC(i.e. core biopsy and punch biopsy) and/or from mastectomy (Cohort II-MD Anderson patients only) * Age \> 18 years * Able to provide informed consent Exclusion Criteria:
