What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study looks for biological signs that may predict Alzheimer's disease in people who carry a gene change linked to it. It is for adults whose parent has Alzheimer's in a family with a known gene change that causes inherited Alzheimer's.

The purpose of this study is to identify potential biomarkers that may predict the development of Alzheimer's disease in people who carry an Alzheimer's mutation.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • You and a person who can share information about you must give written consent before any study procedures.
  • You must be age 18 or older and have a parent affected by Alzheimer's, based on symptoms or testing. Your family must have a known gene change that causes inherited Alzheimer's.
  • You may have no memory or thinking problems, or only very mild or mild problems. People with moderate problems may join with special approval from the study center.
  • The study mainly seeks adults without symptoms who are more than 15 years younger than the age when symptoms are expected to start.
  • You must have two people who can share information about you. Neither can be a sibling who shares both of your parents.

  • You have a medical or mental health condition that would keep you from completing study visits.
  • You need the level of care provided in a nursing home.
  • You have no one who can share information about you for the study.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Primary enrollment will focus on the recruitment of asymptomatic adult children who are more than 15 years younger than the estimated age of symptom onset. Enrollment of new participants with moderate cognitive impairment is allowed with the prior approval of the DIAN Coordinating Center. * Has two persons who are not their full-blooded siblings who can serve as collateral sources for the study. * Fluent in a language approved by the DIAN Coordinating Center at about the 6th grade level (international equivalent) or above. Exclusion Criteria: * Under age 18 * Medical or psychiatric illness that would interfere in completing initial and follow-up visits * Requires nursing home level care * Has no one who can serve as a study informant
