What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study collects and studies lung tissue from people having surgery for non-small cell lung cancer. Researchers want to learn about changes in RNA, which helps cells use genetic instructions, and find signs linked to cancer.

RATIONALE: Studying samples of tumor tissue from patients with cancer in the laboratory may help doctors learn more about changes that may occur in RNA and identify biomarkers related to cancer. PURPOSE: This research study is collecting and analyzing lung tissue samples from patients undergoing surgery for non-small cell lung cancer.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Have non-small cell lung cancer that is stage I or II (early stage).
  • The cancer can be removed by surgery, and surgery to remove all of it is planned.
  • Be treated in a related study at Vanderbilt University, the Veterans Administration hospital, St. Thomas, or the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Affiliate Network.
  • Tumor tissue samples must be available when the cancer is removed.

Who can't join

  • Had chemotherapy (cancer-killing drugs) before surgery.
  • Had radiation treatment before surgery.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion criteria * Diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer * Clinical stage I and II disease * Resectable disease and complete surgical resection planned * Treated on companion studies at Vanderbilt University, the Veterans Administration hospital, St. Thomas, and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Affiliate Network * Tumor specimen samples must be available at resection Exclusion criteria * Chemotherapy before surgery * Radiotherapy before surgery
