No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.

About this study
In plain language
This study reviews past records of adults who had major surgery on the colon or rectum at UAMS. It compares care before and after the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery system began, looking at hospital stays, strong pain medicine use, pain, nausea, vomiting, and hospital returns within 30 days. Names and other identifying details were removed from the records, and no patients will be enrolled.
This is an observational study to look at the impact of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery system for colorectal surgery (Group 1) in shortening hospital length of stay, reducing postoperative narcotic consumption, lowering Visual Analog Scale scores, decreasing the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and reducing 30-day readmission when compared to patients who had colorectal surgery performed at UAMS prior to the implementation of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery system (Group 2). This is a retrospective study using de-identified records and therefore will not require subject enrollment and is NOT Human Subjects Research.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
