What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Blood draws

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study checks how well a blood test helps guide care for slow-growing prostate cancer. It is for men ages 40–80 with low-grade prostate cancer who are being closely monitored or plan to have their prostate removed.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Men ages 40–80 who are expected to live at least 10 more years.
  • Any active surveillance plan is accepted. This means closely checking the cancer with regular tests.
  • There are no limits on PSA, a blood marker used to check prostate health.
  • You must fit one of the two groups below.
  • Group 1: You are on active surveillance and have had only one prostate biopsy showing low-grade cancer. A biopsy tests a small tissue sample.
  • Group 1: Your first yearly biopsy is already scheduled within 90 days after joining.
  • Group 2: You were recently diagnosed with low-grade prostate cancer, chose not to use active surveillance, and are scheduled to have your prostate removed within 90 days after joining.

Who can't join

  • You are on watchful waiting: you are expected to live less than 10 more years and do not plan treatment to cure the cancer.
  • You have symptoms or rising PSA, but prostate biopsies have not shown cancer.
  • You have had another type of cancer, except basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria * Men between 40-80 of age with at least a 10-year life expectancy * All active surveillance protocols are accepted * No PSA limits Category 1: * Patient is currently on active surveillance with only ONE previous low grade prostate biopsy. * Patient must already be scheduled for their 1st annual biopsy under their active surveillance protocol within 90 days of enrollment date. Category 2: • Patient is recently diagnosed with low grade prostate cancer but has decided against active surveillance and is scheduled for radical prostatectomy within 90 days of enrollment date. Exclusion Criteria: Men on watchful waiting i.e. those with less than 10-year life expectancy with no intent for curative therapy * Men with symptoms or rising PSA who have not been proven to have cancer by tissue biopsy i.e. men with only negative prostate biopsies. * Patients with a history of a different cancer (except basal cell carcinoma)
