What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests how safe and effective intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) is for small cell lung cancer. IMPT is a type of radiation treatment that uses proton beams. The study is for adults whose cancer is limited or has spread more widely.

To assess the safety and efficacy of intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) for small cell lung cancer (SCLC)

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Age 18 or older.
  • Small cell lung cancer confirmed by lab testing of tissue or cells, whether limited or more widely spread.
  • Your radiation doctor recommends IMPT to the chest, with a total dose of 30–66 Gy given over 15–33 treatments. Gy is a unit used to measure radiation dose.

Who can't join

  • Past radiation treatment that would give a large overlapping dose to the area planned for treatment.
  • Pregnant.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Pathologically confirmed small cell lung cancer, limited or extensive stage. * Patients who are offered thoracic radiotherapy with intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) techniques delivering 30-66 Gy in 15-33 fractions at 2 Gy per fraction, at the recommendation of the treating radiation oncologist. * Age 18 or greater Exclusion Criteria: * Prior radiation therapy which would provide significant dose overlap with the planned target volume(s) * Pregnancy
