What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: MRI scans, Biopsies

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

  • "The purpose of this research is to collect data about the MRI cryoablation procedure your doctor(s) would normally perform in order to treat the participants focal prostate cancer and to evaluate the participants condition after the participants treatment is performed."
  • "The purpose of this study is to evaluate MR-guided cryoablation of biopsy proven prostate tumors using the Galil MRI-compatible cryoablation system."
  • "The study only collects data about the MRI-guided cryoablation procedure the participants doctor(s) would normally perform in order to treat the participants focal prostate cancer and to evaluate the participants condition after there treatment is performed."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study collects information about MRI-guided cryoablation, a treatment that uses freezing to destroy prostate cancer in one area. It is for people with prostate cancer who are already scheduled for this treatment. The study also checks their condition after treatment.

The purpose of this research is to collect data about the MRI cryoablation procedure your doctor(s) would normally perform in order to treat the participants focal prostate cancer and to evaluate the participants condition after the participants treatment is performed. Participants have been asked to take part in this research because the participants have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and scheduled to have an ablation procedure.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • A tissue sample confirms prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 7, a rating of how abnormal the cancer cells look.
  • You were referred to a urinary tract specialist or an image-guided treatment specialist for care.
  • Surgery or radiation is not a desired treatment choice when you join.
  • The tumor is less than 2 centimeters across at its widest point.
  • The tumor does not involve the rectal wall or the muscle that controls urine flow.
  • You can have an MRI scan.

Who can't join

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

    Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Patients with "biopsy proven" Gleason7 prostate cancer referred to Urology and/or Interventional Radiology for treatment * Surgery and/or Radiation is not a desirable alternative therapy at the time of enrollment * Tumor size is \< 2 cm at its largest diameter * Tumor does not encompass the rectal wall or external urethral sphincter * Patient is able to undergo MRI Exclusion Criteria: •
