A Study of Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) for People With Lung Cancer That Has Spread to the Brain
A Single Arm Phase II Study Assessing Efficacy of Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) for Brain Metastasis (BM) From Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)

What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests how well stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), a focused radiation treatment, works for small cell lung cancer that has spread to the brain. It is for adults with a new diagnosis of cancer spread to the brain.
The purpose of the study is to see if stereotactic radiosurgery/SRS is an effective treatment for people with a new diagnosis of brain metastases from small cell lung cancer/SCLC.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Age 18 or older.
- Small cell lung cancer confirmed by a tissue test.
- An MRI scan with contrast dye shows up to 20 spots of cancer in the brain.
- Able to do at least some daily activities, with a health activity score of KPS 60–100 or ECOG 0–2.
- Women must be unable to become pregnant or have a negative blood pregnancy test when joining.
- You or your legal representative can give informed consent, meaning you understand and agree to the study.
Who can't join
- Cannot have a brain MRI with contrast dye.
- Cancer in the tissues or fluid around the brain and spinal cord, confirmed by a spinal tap or MRI.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Have had radiation treatment aimed at the brain.
- Cancer elsewhere in the body is not controlled, has no reasonable treatment options, and is expected to cause death. This is based on CT or PET/CT scans taken within 3 months before joining.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Histologic diagnosis of small cell lung cancer * Radiographic diagnosis of up to 20 brain metastases on contrast-enhanced MRI * Age 18 and above * Performance status KPS 60-100/ECOG 0-2 * Female patients must be of non-reproductive potential or have a negative serum pregnancy test at the time of enrollment * The patient or legally authorized representative is able to provide informed consent Exclusion Criteria: * Unable to undergo contrast-enhanced MRI brain * Leptomeningeal disease confirmed on lumbar puncture, MRI brain, or MRI spine * Pregnant or lactating women * Prior brain-directed radiotherapy * Uncontrolled systemic disease without reasonable systemic therapy options felt likely to result in death as observed on CT or PET/CT imaging, no more than 3 months before study enrollment
