What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: MRI scans, Ultrasound

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "Ablative therapies may be delivered via a whole gland or focal approach by systems including cryoablation (CA), brachytherapy, irreversible electroporation (IRE), high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), MRI-guided transurethral ultrasound ablation (TULSA) procedure or future novel prostate ablation systems."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study looks at how safe and effective focal ablation is for prostate cancer that is limited to the prostate. Focal ablation destroys cancer in a targeted area. The study also looks at quality of life and how well treatment controls the cancer.

This study will be designed to define the efficacy and safety of ablative therapies in the management of localized prostate cancer and comprehensively evaluate quality of life outcomes and oncologic control following treatment.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Men ages 18–90.
  • Prostate adenocarcinoma, a type of prostate cancer, confirmed by a biopsy (a tissue sample).
  • Men whose prostate cancer has returned in the prostate may also qualify. A biopsy must confirm the cancer, and standard scans must show no spread nearby or to other parts of the body.
  • Expected to live more than 1 year.
  • Able to understand the study and willing to sign a form agreeing to take part.

Who can't join

  • Body structure differences that prevent focal ablation.
  • Cancer that has spread outside the prostate and cannot be treated with ablation.
  • A current urinary tract infection (an infection in the system that carries urine).

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Men with histologically confirmed prostate adenocarcinoma diagnosed on prostate biopsy * Men with histologically confirmed local recurrence of prostate cancer diagnosed on prostate biopsy and standard of care imaging excluding locoregional or metastatic disease * Age 18-90 years. * Life expectancy \> 1 year * Ability to understand and the willingness to sign a written informed consent. Exclusion Criteria: * Anatomic abnormalities that do not allow for focal ablation * Evidence of non-organ confined disease that is not feasible for ablation * Has active urinary traction infection
