What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests a stress management program for adults with lung cancer who have regular cancer scans. It is for people who have at least mild anxiety or stress about scans or appointments. The study has two small testing phases to see how well the program can be used.

This is a behavioral trial study to pilot test a stress management intervention for people with cancer who are undergoing routine cancer scans. The study will involve two pilot testing phases. Initial feasibility will be determined in an Open Trial phase, to inform any needed revisions to the intervention and/or protocol prior to a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial phase. The Open Trial phase is an unblinded, single-site, single-arm open trial (n=10). The Pilot randomized clinical trial (RCT) phase is an unblinded, single-site, feasibility pilot randomized controlled trial (n=50).

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Age 18 or older.
  • Comfortable speaking, reading, and writing English without an interpreter.
  • Have lung cancer. For the first phase only, have stage III–IV lung cancer or extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, which has spread widely.
  • Have an ECOG activity score of 0–2: able to care for yourself and be up and about at least half the day.
  • Get ongoing care and regular scans at a clinic working with the study.
  • Get lung cancer treatment that works throughout the body.
  • Report at least mild anxiety or stress about appointments or scans on study questionnaires.

Who can't join

  • Have moderate to severe problems with memory or thinking, based on a dementia diagnosis or a screening test.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
