What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Time periods mentioned: 2 years

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "Four cohorts of 100 patients each will be studied over two years, focusing on treatment decisions and patient outcomes."
  • "The study duration will be up to two years, with data collection including baseline demographics, medical history, treatment decisions, and patient outcomes."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests whether the BostonGene Tumor Portrait test can help guide treatment for people with certain advanced cancers. The test looks at genes and other features of the cancer to help find treatment options and clinical trials.

The BEGIN Study by BostonGene and Exigent Genomic INsight evaluates the efficacy of comprehensive molecular testing in advanced cancer patients. Using the BostonGene Tumor Portrait test, the study aims to identify actionable findings, assess feasibility, and determine patient enrollment in clinical trials. Four cohorts of 100 patients each will be studied over two years, focusing on treatment decisions and patient outcomes. This study seeks to demonstrate the clinical utility of genomic testing in guiding therapy for advanced cancer patients in community settings.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Have one of the four cancer types listed below.
  • Breast cancer that has come back near where it started, cannot be removed with surgery, or has spread to distant parts of the body.
  • Non-small cell lung cancer that is stage III and cannot be removed with surgery, or has spread to distant parts of the body.
  • Melanoma, a type of skin cancer, that cannot be removed with surgery or has spread to distant parts of the body.
  • Sarcoma, a cancer of bone or soft tissue, that has grown into nearby areas or spread to distant parts of the body.
  • Your treating doctor expects you to live more than 3 months.
  • Be willing to give informed consent, meaning you understand the study and agree to join, and agree to testing of the cancer’s genes and other features.
  • Live in the United States when you join.

Who can't join

  • Do not meet all the requirements to join.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
