What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This 14-month study tests whether eating peanuts and peanut products each day improves heart, blood sugar, brain, and gut health. It is for adults ages 20–59 with prediabetes, or blood sugar that is higher than normal, from a range of racial backgrounds.

The overall objective of this 14-month randomized crossover study is to seek evidence demonstrating that daily consumption of peanuts and peanut products improve cardiometabolic, cognitive, and intestinal health in a racially diverse prediabetes population.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Men and women ages 20–59.
  • Body mass index (BMI), a measure of weight compared with height, of 24.5–35.5.
  • Prediabetes: fasting blood sugar of 100–125 mg/dL, HbA1c of 5.7–6.4%, or both. HbA1c measures average blood sugar over time.
  • Able to give consent to join the study.

Who can't join

  • Allergy to peanuts or peanut products.
  • Use of insulin, other diabetes medicines, antibiotics, or medicines that reduce inflammation.
  • Active cancer; gut, kidney, heart or blood vessel, thyroid, or nervous system disease; or a severe head injury.

  • Use of antioxidant, probiotic, or prebiotic supplements, which protect cells or support gut bacteria.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Currently taking part in a weight loss program.
