What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.

  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests ways to help Native American women in one Navajo Nation community get mammograms, which are breast X-rays used to check for cancer. Women will be assigned by chance to tablet-based lessons designed for their community, either alone or with monthly one-on-one help from a Diné peer guide. The study is for women ages 40–74 who have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months.

The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention to promote breast cancer screening mammography among women in one community on the Navajo Nation. The intervention is Tablet-based Education to improve the Acceptance of Mammography (TEAM). TEAM encompasses culturally-tailored mammography education modules that were developed using a community-based participatory research process. Women will be randomized to receive TEAM or TEAM + Navigation. Navigation involves monthly 1:1 support from a Diné peer-navigator.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
