What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
- Procedures mentioned: CT scans

Show the study's own words
- "Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer death, and lung cancer screening (LCS) with low-dose computed tomography can reduce lung cancer-related mortality among eligible individuals."
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests whether help from a community health worker or trained community guide can improve access to lung cancer screening and help people stop smoking. It is for adults ages 50 to 80 at three community health centers who may qualify for screening. Participants are assigned by chance to enhanced usual care or one of the two types of support.
Lung cancer screening (LCS) can reduce lung cancer-related mortality, but screening uptake remains low among eligible individuals. The goal of this study is to partner with community stakeholders to develop and pilot test a multi-component navigator-delivered intervention targeting key barriers to lung cancer screening and tobacco treatment utilization. Participants are randomized to enhanced usual care, a community health worker (CHW)-delivered intervention, or the same intervention delivered by a trained lay navigator. The intervention includes patient outreach, patient-centered shared decision-making, tobacco treatment counseling, and assistance navigating logistical barriers to care. The proposed activities will lay the groundwork for a subsequent fully powered randomized clinical trial evaluating CHW- and lay navigator-delivered approaches to facilitate access to lung cancer screening and tobacco treatment.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
