What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
The EpiDRIVE study looks at chemical marks on DNA found in blood to help predict who will benefit from targeted cancer drugs. It is for people with colon or rectal cancer that has spread who received drugs that target EGFR or VEGF.
The EpiDRIVE study aims to identify cfDNA-based epigenetic determinants of response in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients treated with EGFR- or VEGF-targeted therapy. By integrating 5-methylcytosine (5mC) and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) profiling, this study seeks to develop a predictive biomarker panel capable of differentiating responders from non-responders to targeted therapy.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Have adenocarcinoma of the colon or rectum that has spread, confirmed by a tissue test. Adenocarcinoma is cancer that starts in gland cells.
- Have received cetuximab or panitumumab, which target EGFR, or bevacizumab, which targets VEGF.
- Have a blood plasma sample from before treatment available for DNA testing. Plasma is the liquid part of blood.
- Have scan results showing how the cancer responded to treatment, measured using rules called RECIST 1.1.
- Have known test results for changes in the RAS and BRAF genes.
Who can't join
- The blood sample has too little free-floating DNA, or the DNA quality is too low.
- The cancer is not adenocarcinoma.
- Have another active cancer, either now or in the past.
- Have an active disease causing inflammation or an immune system attack on the body that affects the DNA marks being studied.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Histologically confirmed metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma (mCRC). * Received EGFR-targeted therapy (cetuximab/panitumumab) or VEGF-targeted therapy (bevacizumab). * Availability of pre-treatment plasma sample for cfDNA analysis. * Documented radiologic response evaluation (RECIST 1.1). * RAS/BRAF mutation status known. Exclusion Criteria: * Inadequate cfDNA quality or low cfDNA yield. * Non-adenocarcinoma histology. * Concurrent or prior other active malignancy. * Active inflammatory or autoimmune disease affecting cfDNA methylation profiles.
