About this study

In plain language

This study looks at breast cancer risks and outcomes in people from different backgrounds. It is for women age 18 or older at MSK who need a biopsy for a suspicious breast finding or can have surgery for newly diagnosed breast cancer. Researchers will collect tissue and blood and ask participants to fill out surveys during regular care; the study does not provide treatment.

The purpose of this study is to learn more about risks and outcomes of breast cancer in people with different backgrounds. Tissue and blood will be collected from participants for research purposes. Participants will complete questionnaires during their standard medical care. The study will not provide treatment for cancer or any other condition.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • You are a woman age 18 or older.
  • You are seen at MSK for a biopsy of a suspicious breast finding, or you have newly diagnosed breast cancer and can have surgery. A biopsy takes tissue to check for cancer.

Who can't join

  • Your suspicious breast lump or breast cancer is smaller than 1 centimeter.
  • You have only microinvasion, meaning cancer has spread only a tiny distance into nearby tissue.
  • You are younger than 18.
  • You cannot complete the survey. The study includes patients labeled “IDMC” in this group but does not explain that term.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
