What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests whether audio therapy can reduce anxiety in adults with psoriasis, a skin condition. It will also measure changes in overall symptoms. The therapy involves one 23- to 30-minute listening session at home.
Anxiety in psoriasis is associated with impaired quality of life, and the prevalence of anxiety symptoms in psoriatic populations is approximately 34% and anxiety disorders up to 16%. Many experts recommend routine screening, referral, and interventions for anxiety in psoriasis; however, many barriers inhibit access to mental health resources and proper management. To our knowledge, there is a lack of easily accessible interventions that manage anxiety. Audio-based therapy offers convenient and effective interventions that show reduced anxiety in published, randomized studies and is a promising management for psoriasis patients. This study will evaluate the effects of audio therapy in patients with psoriasis and measure changes in overall symptoms.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- You are 18 or older.
- You report that a skin doctor diagnosed you with psoriasis.
- You score at least 1 on a two-question anxiety screening test.
- You can agree to take part and complete surveys before and after the session.
- You have internet access and can use a computer or smartphone with headphones for one 23- to 30-minute session at home.
Who can't join
- You have hearing loss severe enough to prevent listening with headphones.
- You have a condition that requires strict sound avoidance for safety, such as seizures, a serious head injury, or severe migraines triggered by sound.
- The study doctor believes another condition would make participation unsafe or make it hard to assess your anxiety or psoriasis.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Age ≥18 years * Self-reported dermatologist-diagnosed psoriasis * GAD 2-Item Score ≥1 at screening * Ability to consent and complete pre- and post-intervention surveys. * Internet access and the ability to use a computer/smartphone with headphones for a single 23-30 minute session at home. Exclusion Criteria: * Severe hearing impairment precluding headphone listening * Any condition requiring strict sound avoidance (such as seizure/epilepsy, major head trauma, severe sound-triggered migraine) that would make participation unsafe. * Other diagnoses that in the investigator's judgment preclude safe participation or interfere with anxiety or psoriasis evaluation.
