What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests whether a heart scan plan based on each woman's risk can safely reduce scans that are not needed while still finding heart damage from treatment early. It is for women with early-stage, HER2-positive breast cancer who will receive treatment that targets HER2, a protein that helps cancer grow.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether a personalized, risk-stratified surveillance strategy can safely reduce unnecessary cardiac imaging while preserving early detection of treatment-related cardiotoxicity in women with breast cancer (BC) receiving HER2-targeted therapy (HER2-TT).
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Women ages 18 to 79.
- HER2-positive breast cancer confirmed by a tissue test, with about 12 months of HER2-targeted treatment planned after surgery.
- A starting heart ultrasound shows that the heart pumps out at least 55% of the blood in its main pumping chamber with each beat.
- Able to understand the study and agree to take part.
Who can't join
- Past heart failure, heart attack, or heart muscle disease.
- Atrial fibrillation, a type of irregular heartbeat, or serious heart valve disease.
- A total past dose of anthracycline chemotherapy of 250 mg/m² or more, measured based on body size.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Unable to follow the study steps.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
