What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study looks at signs of Type 2 (T2) inflammation, a kind of swelling in the airways, in adults already being treated for asthma. Participants take a breath test called FeNO and allow researchers to review their medical records. Researchers hope to improve how people are referred for asthma care.
This study is designed to support the assessment of Type 2 (T2) biomarkers in asthma in primary care and community specialty practices. To assess T2 biomarkers, individuals will be required to complete a breath test for fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) and consent to a review of their medical records. Asthma often goes undetected in primary care and community settings, and through this study the researchers hope to optimize referral pathways to care.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- You are 18 or older.
- You can agree to join and complete the study tests.
- You have been diagnosed with asthma and have started treatment.
Who can't join
- The study doctor decides you cannot join for medical reasons.
- You have a history of lung disease other than asthma, such as COPD, tuberculosis, lung cancer, or repeated pneumonia.
- You have severe asthma that meets GINA Step 5 criteria, treated with an inhaled steroid plus other asthma control medicines.
- You are in another asthma treatment study that could affect your asthma and signs of T2 inflammation.
- In the past year, you saw a lung or allergy specialist who measures FeNO, a gas in your breath linked to airway inflammation.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Participant Inclusion Criteria * Age 18 years and older * Ability to consent and comply with protocol assessments * Pre-existing diagnosis of asthma and has started treatment Participant Exclusion Criteria * Participant deemed medically ineligible per the opinion of the investigator * History of respiratory/lung disease other than asthma (e.g., COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, recurrent pneumonia or other chronic lung disease) * Participants who meet criteria for GINA 5, severe asthma (ICS + additional controllers) * Current Enrollment in an asthma intervention trial that could affect asthma outcomes clinically and T2 biomarkers * Visit with a specialist (i.e. Pulmonologist or Allergist) in the past year who is measuring FeNO levels
