What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
- Procedures mentioned: Biopsies, Ultrasound
Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

- "This is a prospective pilot study of breast cancer patients undergoing axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) or sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB)."
- "Participants will undergo ultra-high frequency ultrasound (UHFUS) imaging with indocyanine green (ICG) dye to map lymphatic channels between the wrist and elbow to investigate normal lymphatic anatomy in patients with breast cancer."
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This small study uses ultra-high frequency ultrasound (sound-wave imaging) and a dye called ICG to map fluid-draining channels between the wrist and elbow. It studies normal lymph channels in adults with breast cancer who plan to have surgery to remove underarm lymph nodes or check the first nodes where cancer may spread.

Eligibility
Who can join
- Be age 18 or older when you agree to join.
- Have a confirmed breast cancer diagnosis.
- Plan to have underarm lymph nodes removed or a sentinel lymph node biopsy to treat breast cancer. A sentinel biopsy checks the first nodes where cancer may spread.
- Sign and date a form agreeing to join the study.
- Be willing to follow all study steps and be available for the full study.
Who can't join
- Have a history of temporary or lasting swelling in the limb, including stage 1 or higher swelling from fluid buildup.
- Have had surgery on underarm lymph nodes before.
- Have a history of disease in the arm’s lymph channels or veins, including a blood clot in a deep vein.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
