What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study is for adults with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, which causes joint pain and swelling. It tests whether clopidogrel reduces signs of swelling and plaque buildup in blood vessel lining cells more than aspirin or a placebo (a pill with no active drug). Clopidogrel and aspirin help stop blood clots from forming.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of antiplatelet therapy on the endovascular phenotype in psoriasis, specifically whether clopidogrel reduces vascular endothelial pro-atherosclerotic transcript expression more than aspirin or placebo. The primary endpoint is mean change in a composite endothelial pro-inflammatory/pro-atherosclerotic transcript expression signature measured from brachial vein endothelial cells.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Have psoriasis confirmed by a board-certified skin doctor, or psoriatic arthritis confirmed by a board-certified joint doctor.
- Be at least 18 but younger than 90.
- Be able and willing to sign a form agreeing to join the study.
- Speak English, unless an approved translated consent form is available.
- Have taken no blood-thinning or clot-preventing medicines for 14 days before joining.
Who can't join
- Past heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), or blocked arteries in the arms or legs; or heart failure.
- Ongoing blood-thinning or clot-preventing medicine use that cannot be stopped at least 14 days before joining.
- Top blood pressure number above 180 at rest, diabetes with an HbA1c above 10% (a long-term blood sugar measure), or kidney disease with a filtering rate below 30 mL/min.
- Active cancer being treated, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or unwillingness to use acceptable birth control if able to become pregnant.
- Low red blood cells (hemoglobin below 9), or too few or too many platelets, which help blood clot (platelet count below 75 or above 600).
- Past severe bleeding or a bleeding disorder, current abnormal bleeding, or a current ulcer (an open sore) in the stomach or intestines.
- Allergy to aspirin, clopidogrel, or any ingredient in the study capsules.
- Breathing problems made worse by aspirin, or asthma caused by salicylates or NSAIDs, types of pain medicines.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
