What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Questionnaires, Interviews, Pills

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

  • "Participants will complete baseline, 3-month, and 6-month surveys."
  • "A subset of participants who receive the technology will also be asked to complete a semi-structured interview after the 6-month survey."
  • "The Social Reminder System app is designed to provide memory prompts to persons with memory concerns on an in-home tablet before and during social visits."
  • "When trusted circle members are within a 10-meter range of the tablet, the person with memory concerns receives a notification that a visitor is in range."
  • "Reminders continue to appear on the tablet throughout the visit and cease once the visitor is out of range."
  • "The baseline survey will be administered before exposure to the intervention or attention control."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests the Social Reminder System, a mobile tool for people over 65 with memory concerns and their care partners. It aims to help people stay socially connected, help caregivers organize care, and ease their workload. Pairs will be assigned by chance to use the tool for 6 months or receive usual care.

This study will evaluate the Social Reminder System, a mobile informatics system designed to support persons with memory concerns and their care partners. The system is intended to aid social integration for persons with memory concerns and improve care coordination and reduce caregiver burden among caregivers. Researchers will enroll 100 persons with memory concerns and their care partners. Half of the dyads will be randomly assigned to receive the Social Reminder System technology for a 6-month period, and the other half will be randomly assigned to the usual care control group. Participants will complete baseline, 3-month, and 6-month surveys. A subset of participants who receive the technology will also be asked to complete a semi-structured interview after the 6-month survey.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

  • The person with memory concerns must be older than 65.
  • The person must report seeing a health care provider for memory concerns or having a diagnosis of mild to moderate memory problems.
  • The person must be able to give formal consent or assent, meaning agreement to take part.
  • The person with memory concerns must have internet access.
  • The care partner must be at least 18 and identify as the person's main caregiver.
  • The care partner must be willing to use the system or be assigned by chance to the usual care group.

Who can't join

  • People who do not meet the requirements above cannot join.
