What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Biopsies

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "The purpose of this study is to explore pro-metastatic changes in breast cancer (BC) associated with the stiffness of biopsy site markers."
  • "This study aims to determine whether the stiffness of a biopsy site marker promotes inflammatory changes in breast cancer and to evaluate whether there is a relationship between biopsy site marker stiffness and inflammation."
  • "This prospective study aims to evaluate whether anti-inflammatory and pro-metastatic changes at the post-biopsy site are associated with the type of biopsy-site marker used, with particular focus on marker stiffness."
  • "Tissue samples will be collected from breast cancer patients who received a biopsy-site marker at the time of diagnosis."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study looks at whether the stiffness of markers placed at a breast biopsy site causes inflammation, or swelling, linked to cancer spread. It is for women over age 18 with confirmed invasive breast cancer who are referred to OU for surgery.

The purpose of this study is to explore pro-metastatic changes in breast cancer (BC) associated with the stiffness of biopsy site markers. This study aims to determine whether the stiffness of a biopsy site marker promotes inflammatory changes in breast cancer and to evaluate whether there is a relationship between biopsy site marker stiffness and inflammation.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Sign and date a consent form before any study tests or procedures.
  • Be a woman over age 18 when signing the consent form.
  • Have breast cancer confirmed by a tissue test that has grown into nearby breast tissue, and be referred to OU for surgery.

Who can't join

  • Had a breast biopsy at OUBI OKC.
  • Will receive cancer treatment before surgery.
  • Have a severe or uncontrolled illness, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes, an active bleeding disorder, or an active viral infection such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or HIV.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Cannot have surgery.
  • Are a prisoner.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
