What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests whether bioimpedance (BIA), a test that uses electrical signals, can help predict the risk of lymphedema in women with inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). Lymphedema is swelling caused by a buildup of lymph fluid. The study is for women age 18 or older with newly diagnosed IBC who have not had breast or armpit surgery.
To find out whether the BIA test can help identify participants with IBC who are at risk for developing lymphedema.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Women age 18 or older.
- Newly diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer.
- Have not had breast or armpit surgery.
- Able to receive standard treatment: cancer medicine before surgery, surgery to remove the breast and armpit lymph nodes, and radiation therapy.
Who can't join
- Have had breast or armpit surgery.
- Have a pacemaker or another electronic medical device inside the body.
- Have metal implanted in the body.
- Are in a vulnerable group, including children, pregnant women, and adults with problems with thinking or understanding.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Eligibility Criteria All women≥18 years old with newly diagnosed inflammatory breast cancer without prior breast/axillary surgery who are eligible for standard of care (NST, MRM, and radiation therapy). Exclusion Criteria Prior breast/axillary surgery. Participants with pacemakers or other implanted electronic medical devices. Participants with implanted metallic material. All vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant women, and cognitively impaired adult
