What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests whether the MAVEN device collects the same brain signal data as the standard Alpha Omega device during deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. DBS uses electrical signals to help treat movement disorders. The study is for Mayo Clinic patients already scheduled for this surgery with Dr. Kendall Lee.

The purpose of this research is to determine if the electrophysiologic data collected from standard-of-care microelectrode recordings during human deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery will be the same using the MAVEN device compared with the standard Alpha Omega device with either a tungsten standard-of-care microelectrode (for microelectrode recordings), or a carbon-fiber microelectrode (for neurotransmitter recordings). The number of microelectrodes used for both the tungsten and the carbon-fiber version will be the same as the standard-of-care.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • You are a Mayo Clinic patient already scheduled for DBS surgery with Dr. Kendall Lee to treat a movement disorder.

Who can't join

  • The DBS committee, a team of health experts, has not approved you for DBS surgery.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Mayo Clinic patients already scheduled to undergo DBS surgery with Dr. Kendall Lee fora movement disorder. Exclusion Criteria: * Patients not approved for DBS surgery by the multidisciplinary DBS committee.
