What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
- Procedures mentioned: Biopsies
Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.
Show the study's own words
- "Subjects are enrolled who are scheduled to undergo heart surgery and are willing to allow for a small biopsy to be taken from their hearts during surgery."
- "Biopsies are taken to the laboratory where cells are separated and analyzed by flow cytometry and grown in cell culture to understand how their biology is regulated by NRG and EGF."
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study looks at how proteins in the EGF family send signals that control heart cells that are not muscle cells. It is for people with severe disease in the arteries that supply the heart who are scheduled for heart bypass surgery.
This study examines the role of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor family and the EGF family of ligands in the regulation of non-myocytes isolated from the human heart.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Have a doctor's diagnosis of severe coronary artery disease and be scheduled for heart bypass surgery.
Who can't join
- Are younger than 18, or cannot or do not want to give informed consent (agree to join after learning about the study).
- Have known, active myocarditis (swelling of the heart muscle).
- Have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a disease that makes the heart muscle too thick).
- Have constrictive pericarditis (a stiff sac around the heart) or another serious disease of that sac.
- Have severe pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs).
- Have serious kidney problems, with a creatinine blood test result above 2.5 mg/dL.
- Have severe abnormal heart rhythms in the lower chambers of the heart.
- Are pregnant.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
