What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
- Procedures mentioned: Wearing a device
Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.
Show the study's own words
- "This study evaluates the use of a wearable vest capable of non-invasively measuring lung fluid content in hospitalized patients with heart failure"
- "Remote Dielectric Sensing is a novel technology that enables the non-invasive assessment of lung fluid content using a wearable vest."
- Compensation
- Mentioned in the study description
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests a wearable vest called ReDS that measures fluid in the lungs without entering the body. It is for adults in the hospital whose heart failure has gotten worse and who need medicines through a vein.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- You are in the hospital for worsening heart failure and need medicines through a vein to remove extra fluid or affect blood flow.
- You have signed a consent form and allowed your health information to be used and shared.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- Your body is suitable for measurements with the ReDS vest.
- Your GFR, a measure of how well your kidneys filter blood, is above 25.
- Your first ReDS lung fluid reading is above 35%.
Who can't join
- Your height is below 155 cm or above 190 cm, your BMI (a measure of weight for height) is below 22 or above 39, or the distance around your chest is below 80 cm or above 115 cm. You also cannot have flail chest, where broken ribs leave part of the chest unstable.
- Your health history, exam, or chest X-ray shows certain lung problems, including a past blood clot in the lungs, current pneumonia, or a known lung lump.
- You have long-term kidney failure with a GFR below 25.
- You had heart surgery within 2 months before this hospital stay.
- You have a device that helps your heart pump blood, or you have had a heart transplant.
- When admitted, your heart could not pump enough blood to your body, and you needed medicine to help it pump harder.
- You have a heart defect from birth or a mass inside your chest that affects the shape or position of your right lung. Examples include a heart on the right side, lung cancer, or a pacemaker box in the right chest.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Patients hospitalized for acute decompensated heart failure requiring treatment with intravenous diuretics and/or IV vasoactive drugs * Patient has signed informed consent and has authorized use and disclosed health information * Patient is at least 18 years of age * Patient physically suitable for ReDS measurement * GFR\>25 * Initial ReDS Measurement \>35% Exclusion Criteria: * Patient characteristics excluded from approved use of ReDS system: height less than 155cm or greater than 190cm, BMI \<22 or \>39, chest circumference \<80cm or \>115cm , or flail chest * Evidence of focal lung lesions on history, physical exam or chest x-ray, including history of pulmonary embolism, active pneumonia, or known lung nodule * Chronic renal failure (GFR\<25) * Prior cardiac surgery within 2 months of index admission * Patient has a ventricular assist device or has had a cardiac transplantation * Patients in cardiogenic shock at admission requiring inotropic support * Congenital heart malformations or intra-thoracic mass that would affect right-lung anatomy (e.g dextrocardia, lung carcinoma, or pacemaker box in the right chest)
