What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Biopsies

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "The team plans to investigate role of FABP4, PFAS and AT2 in modulation of vascular function/dysfunction using vessels isolated from the omental biopsies."
  • "This is because 52 omental biopsies and 104 placentas are required to meet proposed statistical considerations."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study looks at blood vessels and a protein called AT2R during pregnancy. It is for women having a C-section, with or without preeclampsia, a pregnancy condition involving high blood pressure. Researchers will collect tissue from belly fat during surgery and from the placenta after delivery.

The investigators will collect omental tissue (research surgical excision) and placental tissue (standard of care clinical delivery) from both preeclamptic and non-preeclamptic women during their c-section and use these samples to study the blood vessels, specifically the expression/activation of the AT2R.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Female and 18 to 40 years old.
  • Pregnant with one baby and between 28 weeks, 0 days and 41 weeks, 0 days when agreeing to join.
  • Having a C-section, planned or unplanned, whether or not you first try labor.

Who can't join

  • Treated with blood pressure medicine for severe high blood pressure, or given magnesium sulfate, after being hospitalized for preeclampsia.
  • Baby has major problems with how the body is formed or an abnormal number of chromosomes, which carry genes.
  • Having a C-section because the placenta separates too early or because of bleeding problems.
  • Pregnancy is outside 36 weeks, 0 days to 41 weeks, 0 days when enrolling at delivery.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
