What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
- Procedures mentioned: Spinal tap (lumbar puncture)
Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.
Show the study's own words
- "Some current methods of ICP are invasive and, in the case of lumbar puncture, require anesthesia, which can distort the measurement by 5-10 mmHg."
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests whether a video eye scope can give information about pressure inside the skull without going inside the body, using anesthesia (medicine to numb you or put you to sleep), or touching the eye. Participants must be able to sit still and look at a target. Those in the pressure-monitoring group must already have a pressure probe placed for medical care.
This study will test the use of video ophthalmoscope to provide information about intracranial pressure without the use of invasive methods, anesthesia or contact with the eye.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Can sit still and keep looking at a target in the video eye scope.
- For the pressure-monitoring group: already have a probe placed to measure pressure inside the skull for medical care.
Who can't join
- Have glaucoma (a disease that damages the eye’s nerve), retinopathy (damage to the light-sensing layer at the back of the eye), or a head tremor (head shaking you cannot control).
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Must be able to sit still and fix their eyes on a target in the VO objective. * ICP participants must have an inserted ICP probe for clinical purposes. Exclusion Criteria: * Diagnosis of glaucoma, retinopathy or head tremor.
