What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Time periods mentioned: 5 years
  • Procedures mentioned: Questionnaires, MRI scans, Ultrasound

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "To evaluate the association of dietary inflammatory potential (measured by Empirical Dietary Inflammatory Pattern \[EDIP\] score) at baseline using Diet History Questionnaire III (DHQIII) food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) with the incidence of breast cancer in high risk women established in the breast cancer prevention clinic at Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) - James."
  • "Describe utilization of supplemental imaging by type, including breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) and contrasted-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM), in all enrolled women."
  • "OUTLINE: Patients complete physical measurements every 6 months and complete questionnaires annually for 5 years."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study looks at whether diets that may cause inflammation are linked to breast cancer risk. It is for adults at high risk for breast cancer who receive care at the listed Ohio State clinics.

This study evaluates the association of dietary inflammatory potential with breast cancer risk. Information collected in this study may help doctors to identify modifiable risk factors, screen high risk patients early, improve prevention strategies, and provide timely intervention for early therapeutic management as needed.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Be age 18 or older.
  • Be a patient in the high-risk clinic at OSUCCC–James. This includes people with a family history of breast cancer, gene-related risk, certain abnormal breast cells, or past radiation to the chest wall.
  • Be a high-risk patient in the surgical cancer clinic at Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center with certain breast changes: atypical ductal or lobular hyperplasia (unusual cell growth), lobular carcinoma in situ (abnormal cells in milk-making glands), sclerosing adenosis (extra gland tissue and scarring), or radial scars (star-shaped tissue changes).
  • Be able to read and understand English.
  • Be able to give informed consent, meaning you understand the study and agree to join.
  • Agree to let the study team keep checking your medical records during the study.

Who can't join

  • Be a prisoner.
  • Be unable to speak and understand English.
  • Have a known history of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS, cancer cells that stay inside breast milk ducts) or invasive breast cancer (cancer that has grown into nearby breast tissue).

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
