What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests how well the TonoVera device measures pressure inside the eye. It compares TonoVera with other common devices, including Goldmann and iCare. The study is for adults ages 18 to 99 who are well enough to come to the study visit.
We are testing the accuracy of Reichert's Tono-Vera tonometer by comparing measurements of IOP with this device and measurements with other commonly-used tonometers, including Goldmann Applanation and iCare.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- You are 18 to 99 years old.
- You can sign and date a form agreeing to join the study.
- You are willing to follow all study steps and be available for the whole study.
- You are in good general health and able to come to your appointment on the study day.
Who can't join
- You are younger than 18.
- You cannot or do not want to give consent to join.
- Your eye pressure cannot be measured accurately. This may be due to eyelid squeezing, eye movements you cannot control, major problems with the clear front of your eye, or contact lenses you cannot remove.
- You have major thinning of the white outer layer of your eye.
- You have a known allergy to proparacaine, which numbs the eye, or fluorescein, a dye used to help measure eye pressure.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Ability to provide signed and dated informed consent form. Patients willing to comply with all study procedures and be available for the duration of the study. Male or female patients aged 18 to 99 Patients in good general health as evidenced by ability to come to their appointment on day of study. Exclusion Criteria: * Patients age less than 18 years Patients unable or unwilling to provide informed consent to participate in the study Patients for which an accurate tonometry reading cannot be performed. This may include those with blepharospasm (lid squeezers), nystagmus, extensive corneal pathology, or contact lens wearers who cannot remove their contact lens.Patients with significant scleral thinning Patients with a known allergy to proparacaine or fluorescein as these are used to anesthetize and allow measurement respectively of the eye when used with the Goldmann tonometer.
