What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Heart tracing (ECG)

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "The major goal of the study is to determine whether phonocardiography (using the Eko DUO stethoscope which can capture a three lead ECG reading) can present features that relate to the presence of PH diagnosed by echocardiography or right heart catheterization (RHC), and therefore have a potential to assist the provider to suspect PH."
  • "We hypothesize that combining phonocardiography (PCG) from heart auscultation with electrocardiography (ECG) may provide specific elements that correlate with PA pressures on echocardiogram and can help screen for the probability of pulmonary hypertension in a patient."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests whether an electronic stethoscope can record heart sounds that help doctors suspect pulmonary hypertension, or high blood pressure in the lungs. It is for adults over 18 who are sent for a full heart ultrasound or a test that measures pressure inside the heart.

The major goal of the study is to determine whether phonocardiography (using the Eko DUO stethoscope which can capture a three lead ECG reading) can present features that relate to the presence of PH diagnosed by echocardiography or right heart catheterization (RHC), and therefore have a potential to assist the provider to suspect PH.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Over 18 years old.
  • Sent for a full heart ultrasound or right heart catheterization, a test that uses a thin tube to measure pressure inside the heart.

Who can't join

  • Having only a limited heart ultrasound, rather than a full exam.
  • Have a breathing tube in the windpipe.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Patients, ages \>18 years, referred for complete 2-dimensional echocardiography or right heart catheterization will be screened for inclusion. Exclusion Criteria: * Patients undergoing limited echocardiography * Intubated patients
