What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
- Visits mentioned: 3 visits, 2 visits
- Time periods mentioned: 6 months
- Procedures mentioned: Blood draws, Questionnaires, Pills
Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

- "Subjects will undergo 3 study visits involving BP measurements, blood draws, questionnaires, and/or microiontophoresis."
- "Individuals will be randomized at the time of delivery 1:1 to 81mg of low-dose aspirin or identical appearing placebo daily for six months postpartum."
- "Treatment and control groups will monitor home blood pressure throughout the study period and undergo two study visits."
- "At each study visit, participants will undergo a blood draw, blood pressure measurement and assessment of endothelial function with microiontophoresis."
- "Participant adherence will be monitored through pill counts, text message check-ins, patient diary and biochemical monitoring."
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study tests low-dose aspirin after birth in adults who had preeclampsia, a pregnancy condition that causes high blood pressure. It compares aspirin with a placebo, a pill with no active medicine, to see if aspirin helps blood vessels recover and lowers blood pressure by 6 months after birth. It also tests whether a larger study would be practical.
The objective of this research project is to conduct a single-site pilot trial to assess the feasibility and effect of low-dose aspirin to augment vascular recovery in the immediate postpartum period after preeclampsia through two specific aims: 1) to pilot test the feasibility of conducting a randomized controlled trial of postpartum low dose aspirin vs. placebo, and 2) to assess the effect of postpartum aspirin on endothelial function and blood pressure. Our central hypothesis is that postpartum administration of low-dose aspirin following preeclampsia will be feasible, improve endothelial function, and lower BP at 6 months postpartum. Subjects will undergo 3 study visits involving BP measurements, blood draws, questionnaires, and/or microiontophoresis. Up to 60 adult subjects will be enrolled at Magee-Women's Hospital.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
