What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Questionnaires, Interviews

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "Patients randomized to the intervention arm will have providers who receive the tool and can complete one post-trial survey."
  • "High use providers will also have the opportunity to participate in a survey and 1 post-trial interview."
  • "Level 2 providers will participate in one interview."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study will develop and test a tool to help care teams refer people in the hospital with heart failure to palliative care sooner. Palliative care helps ease symptoms and match care to a person's goals. The study includes hospital staff and adult patients with heart failure.

This project will develop and test a novel clinical decision support tool (CDS) that encourages timely referral to palliative care for people hospitalized with heart failure. This intervention will incorporate an existing, validated 1-year mortality risk model into a CDS to deliver prognostic information and evidence-based decision support at the point of care. Thus, this research may lead to improved care-concordant and goal-directed care for people with heart failure.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join
