What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests how eating within an earlier daily time window affects the body's daily rhythms and heart and metabolic health, such as how the body uses food for energy. It is for adults age 60 or older with high blood pressure.

The purpose of this study is to find out how early time-restricted eating affects body rhythms and improves cardiometabolic health in older adults.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Agree to take part in the study.
  • Be age 60 or older.
  • Have an average top blood pressure number of 130 or higher at office visits.
  • Report eating over a span of at least 12 hours a day, at least 5 days a week.
  • Have had stable health for the past 2 months.

Who can't join

  • Go without food for more than 12 hours a day, actively try to lose weight through a formal program or major calorie cuts, or have lost 10 pounds or more in the past 3 months.
  • Cannot wake up at a regular time between 6 and 8 a.m., or work overnight more than 1 day a week on average.
  • Have a resting heart rate above 120 beats a minute, a top blood pressure number above 180, or a bottom number above 100.
  • Have diabetes, take insulin or diabetes medicine, or take medicine that prevents going without food for 16 hours.
  • Have unstable angina (heart-related chest pain), or had a heart attack or stroke in the past 3 months; or use oxygen all the time for long-term lung disease or heart failure.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding; have rheumatoid arthritis (a disease that causes swollen, painful joints) or Parkinson's disease (a condition that affects movement); or receive dialysis (treatment to filter the blood).
  • Have a major mental health condition that would limit taking part in the study.
  • Have severe digestive disease, major digestive system surgery, or active gallstone disease; or received active cancer treatment in the past year.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
