What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
- Procedures mentioned: Biopsies
Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.
Show the study's own words
- "This study will collect tumor specimens with correlated clinical and demographic data from patients who are undergoing a biopsy or similar procedure to obtain tumor tissue as a normal course of their medical management or diagnostic work-up for suspected or confirmed cancer."
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
This study looks at live tumor samples to help predict how cancer may respond to immunotherapy, a treatment that uses the immune system. It is for adults with suspected or confirmed cancer who are having a biopsy or similar tissue test as part of their usual care. The study collects tumor tissue and related health and background information.
This study will collect tumor specimens with correlated clinical and demographic data from patients who are undergoing a biopsy or similar procedure to obtain tumor tissue as a normal course of their medical management or diagnostic work-up for suspected or confirmed cancer.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Are willing and able to give informed consent, meaning you understand the study and agree to join.
- Are age 18 or older when you agree to join.
- Have suspected or confirmed cancer that will be checked with a biopsy, a procedure to remove tissue for testing.
- If your cancer is newly diagnosed or suspected, have not had cancer treatment before the biopsy.
- If you have already had cancer treatment, have the biopsy before starting your next treatment.
Who can't join
- Have an autoimmune disease, where the immune system attacks the body, or another condition that makes you unable to receive immunotherapy. Examples include a past organ transplant or long-term kidney or liver disease.
- Have a very weak immune system. Examples include people taking medicines that weaken the immune system, people with HIV taking HIV medicines, and people who have had a transplant.
- Are pregnant.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
Official eligibility criteria
Inclusion Criteria: 1. Able and willing to provide informed consent for participation 2. Age ≥18 years at time of consent. 3. Have a suspected or confirmed cancer diagnosis that is to be evaluated by means of a biopsy. 4. Subjects who are newly diagnosed or have suspected cancer must be treatment-naïve at the time of biopsy. All other subjects should have the biopsy performed before starting their next line of treatment. Exclusion Criteria: 1. Have a known auto-immune disease or prior condition (prior organ transplant, chronic kidney or liver disease) that renders them ineligible for immunotherapy (IO) treatment. 2. Severely immunocompromised person(s). Examples include patients on immunosuppressants, HIV positive patients on antiretrovirals, post transplantation patients. 3. Pregnant person(s).
