What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests whether the iHeart DepCare tool helps people with coronary heart disease get better care for depression. It is for adults with signs of depression and heart disease that affects the blood vessels supplying the heart. Patients will be assigned by chance to usual care or the tool with brief support based on their needs and wishes.

This study, which is being conducted as part of a Quality Improvement (QI) Initiative at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, will test whether delivering the iHeart DepCare tool increases real world reach and adoption of depression treatment among CHD patients. As part of the QI Initiative, Clinic Navigators will administer and record (in EPIC) depression screening in advance of primary care and cardiology appointments. Eligible patients with elevated depressive symptoms will be randomized to receive usual care vs. the iHeart DepCare tool in conjunction with brief motivational, technical and navigation support per patient preference. Aim 1: To test the effect of iHeart DepCare on depression treatment optimization (primary outcome) among coronary heart disease patients with elevated depressive symptoms. Aim 2: To explore the effect of iHeart DepCare on implementation outcomes, including provider referrals, among coronary heart disease patients with elevated depressive symptoms.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
