A Study to Learn About the Safety of Taking an Additional Dose of the Medicine Rimegepant in Adults With Migraine

A PHASE 4, SINGLE-ARM, OPEN-LABEL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE SAFETY, TOLERABILITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF REDOSING OF RIMEGEPANT IN PARTICIPANTS 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER FOR THE ACUTE TREATMENT OF MIGRAINE

What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests how safe it is to take a second dose of rimegepant for a migraine attack and how well people tolerate it. It is for adults who have had migraines for at least 1 year and currently use medicine to treat migraine attacks.

Acute treatments for migraine may not provide sufficient pain relief after an initial dose, and a second dose of a given medication may be needed to fully abort an attack. International Headache Society (IHS) global practice recommendations for the Acute Treatment of Migraine suggest a second dose of the same medication within the recommended dose limit in people with headache relapse after successful initial treatment of a migraine attack. The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of redosing of rimegepant when taken for the acute treatment of a migraine attack, as it is possible that some patients may benefit from a second dose of rimegepant in this setting.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have had migraines for at least 1 year, with or without aura (warning signs such as changes in vision). Your migraines must meet standard diagnosis rules.
  • Currently use medicine for migraine attacks as directed by its label in your area.
  • Average 6–14 migraine days per month during both the 12 weeks before screening and the first 28 days of the study’s observation period.
  • Average fewer than 15 total headache days per month during both of those periods.
  • Average fewer than 7 days per month with headaches that are not migraines during both of those periods.

Who can't join

  • During the 12 weeks before screening, average 15 or more total headache days per month and 7 or more days per month with headaches that are not migraines.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion: * Eligible participants include adult participants aged 18 years of age or older with a minimum 1-year history of migraine (with or without aura) consistent with International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd Edition * Eligible participants must be currently using acute migraine treatment in accordance with the local label and have all of the following on average across the 12 weeks prior to the Screening Visit and, during the first 28 days of the observation phase (OP): (1) 6-14 monthly migraine days (MMDs); (2) \<15 monthly headache days (MHDs) (migraine or non-migraine); and (3) \<7 monthly non-migraine headache days. Exclusion: * Participants with headaches occurring ≥15 days per month (migraine or non-migraine) on average across the 12 weeks prior to the Screening Visit and ≥7 non-migraine headache days per month on average across the 12 weeks prior to the Screening Visit would not be eligible.
