What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Time periods mentioned: 14 days

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

  • "After providing informed consent, eligible participants will be asked to visit the study site 3 times and stay overnight for 35 nights (up to 49 nights if up to 14 days of antipsychotic washout is applicable)."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests whether LTX-001 is safe and how it affects adults with schizophrenia whose symptoms have recently gotten worse. Researchers will compare different doses with a placebo, a product with no active drug. Participants will stay in a research unit for about five weeks and return one week later for a follow-up visit.

The purpose of this clinical trial is to learn whether the investigational drug LTX-001 is safe and well tolerated in adults with a diagnosis of schizophrenia who are having a recent worsening of their symptoms (an acute exacerbation). Additional questions it aims to answer are: * how does the amount of the study drug in the body change over time (pharmacokinetics) * how does the study drug affect the symptoms of schizophrenia * how do certain markers in the blood change after administration of LTX-001 (pharmacodynamics) Researchers will compare different dose levels of LTX-001 to an inactive product (placebo) to see what differences there are between the two treatments. After successfully screening for the study, participants will stay in a research unit for about five weeks and return one week later for a follow-up visit.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Have schizophrenia as your main diagnosis, based on standard mental health guidelines.
  • Have symptoms that got worse or came back less than two months before screening.
  • Score at least 80 on PANSS, a scale that measures schizophrenia symptoms, at screening.

  • If sexually active, be willing to use an accepted birth control method throughout the study.

Who can't join

  • Have signs that an organ is not working properly, or a major abnormal finding during a physical exam.
  • Have a history of treatment not working, such as at least two adequate trials of antipsychotic medicines, or have had clozapine not work for you.
  • Currently have a mental health diagnosis other than schizophrenia under standard diagnostic guidelines.
  • Be pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have had a substance use disorder in the past year, or used drugs for recreation in the past three months.
