What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.

Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests whether a tool in the electronic health record helps clinicians lower blood pressure better than usual care. It is for adults whose high blood pressure is not under control. Participants return to the clinic 4 weeks after their first visit for a blood pressure check.

The goal of this clinical trial is to study whether having a clinical decision support (CDS) tool available to clinician use will more effectively lower BP 4 weeks after an outpatient visit compared with usual care. The main objective is to assess the impact of the CDS tool, that is embedded with the electronic medical record (EMR), that is available during outpatient clinical encounters, on blood pressure (BP) changes among participants with uncontrolled hypertension. Participants will: Visit the clinic 4 weeks, after their initial clinician visit, for a BP check.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

Eligibility

Who can join

  • Age 18 or older.
  • Have high blood pressure listed in your electronic health record and are prescribed at least one medicine to lower it.
  • Have a top blood pressure number of 130 or higher at an office visit.
  • Are willing and able to follow study instructions and attend the planned study visit.

Who can't join

  • Are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Have heart failure with reduced pumping strength, with the heart pumping out less than 40% of its blood with each beat.
  • Have end-stage kidney disease and receive treatment to replace kidney function, or have an eGFR below 15, a test result showing very low kidney function.
  • Have another condition that the study doctor thinks would prevent you from taking part.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
