What to expect
No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.
What participation involves
Not stated in the study description — ask the study team about visits and procedures.
- Compensation
- Not stated
- Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
- Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
- Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
- Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.
About this study
In plain language
The MIDAS study follows adults with LAM, a lung disease, to learn about the safety and lasting effects of medicines such as sirolimus and everolimus. It includes people who take these medicines now, may take them later, or stopped because they did not work or caused side effects. Adult women with TSC, a condition that can cause growths in the body, may also join with or without lung cysts (air-filled sacs).
The MIDAS study aims to follow male and female LAM patients who are currently taking, have previously failed or been intolerant of, or may (at some time in the future) take mTOR inhibitors (sirolimus or everolimus) as part of their clinical care. Adult female TSC patients may also enroll, with or without lung cysts.
Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.
Eligibility
Who can join
- Be age 18 or older; men and women may join.
- Have LAM diagnosed using ATS/JRS medical guidelines.

- Take, be starting, or possibly take an mTOR inhibitor, such as sirolimus or everolimus; or have tried one that did not work or caused side effects.
Who can't join
- Cannot attend at least one RLD Clinic visit each year.
- Cannot give informed consent, meaning agreement after learning about the study.
- Cannot or do not want to do breathing tests that measure how well the lungs work.
Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.
