What to expect

No one can promise a trial will help you personally — that is what the research is trying to find out.

What participation involves

  • Procedures mentioned: Pills

Only what the study's summary and detailed description on ClinicalTrials.gov say. Time periods may describe the whole study or a part of it — ask the study team what applies to you.

Show the study's own words
  • "The purpose of this study is to see how oral semaglutide, when taken in lower doses help lowering of body weight in participants with excess body weight when compared to 'dummy' tablets (placebo)."
Compensation
Not stated
  • Study-related exams and procedures are typically provided at no cost. This is how many trials work in general — confirm the details for this study with the study team.
  • Participants are monitored closely by the research team throughout the study.
  • Some participants may receive access to an investigational treatment, which is still being studied.
  • Your participation helps researchers learn whether this approach could help future patients.

About this study

In plain language

This study tests lower doses of semaglutide tablets for weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity. It compares semaglutide with placebo tablets, which have no active medicine, to help choose the best lower dose.

The purpose of this study is to see how oral semaglutide, when taken in lower doses help lowering of body weight in participants with excess body weight when compared to 'dummy' tablets (placebo). Results from this study will help select the most optimal lower dose of oral semaglutide that can be used for treating participants living with overweight or obesity.

Compensation is read from the study's own description and may be missing — always confirm with the study team.

  • Be age 18 or older.
  • People who were female or male at birth may join.

  • Have an HbA1c result of 6.5% or higher at screening. This blood test measures average blood sugar.
  • Have used GLP-1 medicines, including dual GLP-1/GIP medicines, or amylin-like medicines regularly before screening. These are types of medicines used for blood sugar or weight control. The listing does not clearly state how much use counts as regular use.

Simplified for readability. The official criteria below are what the study team uses.

Official eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Informed consent obtained before any study-related activities. Study-related activities are any procedures that are carried out as part of the study, including activities to determine suitability for the study. * Female or male (sex at birth). * Age 18 years or above at the time of signing the informed consent. * Body mass index (BMI) of 1. ≥ 27.0 kilogram per square meter (kg/m\^2) with the presence of at least one weight-related comorbidity including, but not limited to, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, obstructive sleep apnoea or CV disease. OR 2. ≥ 30.0 kg/m\^2. * History of at least one self-reported unsuccessful dietary effort to lose body weight. Exclusion Criteria: * A self-reported change in body weight greater than (\>) 5% within 90 days before screening irrespective of medical records. * HbA1c ≥ 6.5% (48 millimoles per mole \[mmol/mol\]) as measured by the central laboratory at screening. * Consistent use of glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, including medication with glucagon like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) activity like dual GLP-1/gastric inhibitory peptide RAs, or amylin analogues before screening. Consistent use is defined as treatment.
